Technical data sheet for the Victron 12V-60Ah battery BAT412550084
VRLA Technology
VRLA stands for Valve Regulated Lead Acid, which means the battery is leak-proof. Gas will escape through safety valves only in the event of overcharging or cell failure.
VRLA batteries are maintenance-free for life.
Sealed AGM (VRLA) Batteries
AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat. In these batteries, the electrolyte is absorbed by capillary action into a fiberglass mat placed between the plates. As we explain in our book “Energy Without Limits,” AGM batteries are better able to deliver high currents for short periods than Gel batteries.
Sealed Gel (VRLA) Batteries
In this type of battery, the electrolyte is immobilized in the form of a gel. Gel batteries generally have a longer lifespan and better cycling capacity than AGM batteries.
Low Self-Discharge
Thanks to the use of lead-calcium grids and high-purity materials, Victron VRLA batteries can be stored for long periods without requiring recharging. The self-discharge rate is less than 2% per month at 20°C. Self-discharge doubles for every 10°C increase in temperature. In a cool environment, Victron VRLA batteries can therefore be stored for up to one year without recharging.
Exceptional Deep Discharge Recovery
Victron VRLA batteries have exceptional recovery capacity even after deep or prolonged discharge.
However, it should be noted that frequent deep or prolonged discharges have a detrimental impact on the lifespan of any lead-acid battery, and Victron batteries are no exception.
Battery Discharge Characteristics
The nominal capacities of Victron AGM and Gel deep cycle batteries are given for a 20-hour discharge, i.e., a discharge current of 0.05C.
The effective capacity decreases for faster discharges at higher currents. Capacity reduction will be even faster with constant power consumers such as inverters.
